Are short guys doomed?

We see short men in films all the time (ie Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Michael J. Fox, Johnny Depp). But, in real life, even if you have a nice looking face, but short height (ie 5'6 or under), you rarely get looks or chances from decent looking women. Even a taller guy who looks like butch will have a better chance. True or not?
