Are Catholics retaliating against fundamentalist hate by attacking Luther?

Attacks on Luther here in R&S have been increasing lately, usually based on quotes taken out of context or from disreputable sources. I can only ume that the dramatic increase lately is a retaliation for the fundamentalist hate toward Catholics, but it doesn't make a lot of sense, since most fundies hate Lutherans as much as they hate Catholics.
