Has this whole 2012 conspiracy theory gotten out of hand?

The world's been "coming to an end" since 1900. Evidently we're not yet dead. It's because of religion that the world is so out of hand. The media's influence is also ridiculous. 2012 was created as a gimmick to make money. The only reason the flippin' Mayan calendar ends at 2012 is because all the astrologers who charted the stars died before they could make a new one.
